limiting beliefs
this week is the week I am launching my first collection and launching my website and my oh my how my brain is a cruel place to be this week. I am going to be fully transparent with you and explain how I am feeling this week and how I am coming to terms with feeling like this. let's talk limiting belief's.
What are limiting beliefs?
limiting beliefs are basically what it says... beliefs that we have that can be limiting. for example, we have been told growing up that "we can't be successful in art" so then we always have this belief that to be successful we must steer away from a creative path and stick to the "correct" path to making money. we put these limitations on ourself and stop ourselves living fully and living past our potential. a lot of these beliefs have come from what we've been told by our parents, teachers and people around us growing up that we now believe are REAL and let me tell you, these can be SO difficult to get out of.
over the years I have tried to do a lot of self-work to overcome some of my limiting beliefs and I thought I had gotten over them until these past couple of weeks. knowing my first collection is coming out has made my deepest darkest beliefs come to the surface and torture me and try and stop me from showing the world my art.. some of these include:
- You're art isn't good enough to be shown to the world
- No one will want to buy your jewellery because it's not good enough
- Everyone's going to laugh at you when they see your work
- Everyone will see the imperfections in your work as failures
- You're not good with numbers, you can't do maths, how are you ever going to run a busniess?
- No ones going to be able to navigate your website
- No ones going to buy your work
- You're not prepared enough for your collection release
- You need to go back to a "normal job"
- change the affirmation: the words we tell ourselves in our heads (and out loud) have so much power. when you catch yourself saying negative words and negative phrases to and about yourself, stop, then completely change the words into positive ones and when you're saying them FEEL the words you're saying.
- listen to positive videos that motivate you: DAILY I listen to a positive motivating video every morning, some mornings I wake up and my mindset can be in a really rubbish place and to switch that up I just play a video in the background and go about my morning and unconsciously it helps change my mindset in such a positive way
- read self-help books that focus on mindset: mindset, in my opinion, is one of the most important things in creation and believing in yourself and success. if you don't have the right mindset and believe in yourself, your work and your art then who else is going to? you have to train your brain to believe in yourself.
- mindset & visualisation meditations: I daily meditate, whether that to relax me, ground me or whatever, meditation is such a good tool in changing your mindset. how do use meditation in changing your limiting beliefs, do a visualisation and visualise yourself as the opposite of your limiting beliefs, for example, you keep having a belief you're not creative, close your eyes, get into a meditative state, then visual yourself as a creative being; painting, creating, having ideas flowing into you.
- write down your limiting beliefs then re-write them into more positive relief: some times just getting them out your head and writing them down can take away the intenseness of them and when you look at them, flip them around by writing the opposite you are taking back the power of these beliefs and you are taking charge!
